About Us

The Malcolm Saville Online website is the brainchild of Mark O’Hanlon.  He is a co-founder of the Malcolm Saville Society, which was established in 1994 to celebrate the work of this popular children’s author, and which has now enrolled over one thousand members of all ages.

The Complete Lone Pine, first published in 1996, was Mark O’Hanlon’s first book and was short-listed by the Children’s Books History Society for their Harvey Darton Award. Since then Mark has completed Malcolm Saville’s own unfinished manuscript, The Silent Hills of Shropshire, which was published in 1998 and updated Saville’s Sussex volume, Portrait of Rye, for reprinting the following year. Since 2001, with the publication of Beyond the Lone Pine, a biography of Malcolm Saville, Mark has gained recognition as Malcolm Saville’s official biographer.

In 2005, The Complete Lone Pine was expanded and published for the first time in hardback.  Malcolm Saville’s Newsletter Scrapbook, a compilation of the newsletters Saville issued to his fans throughout the 1970s, was then published by Mark on CD-ROM in 2006.  This was followed in 2007 by a series of SoundBYTE audio CDs focusing on aspects of Malcolm Saville’s life and work. Since 2007, Mark has also been Web Master of and conducts occasional talks and presentations relating to Malcolm Saville and his work.
